Rouge Bunny Rouge Swift Length Mascara Review

Rouge Bunny Rouge Swift Length Mascara Endless Miracles in Untamed Sable was something I received ages ago as a free gift with purchase from Zuneta, but I had forgotten that I had taken these photos a while back so this is a rather late review.

Anyway onto the mascara - this is RBR's lengthening mascara that has lash conditioning properties from Bamboo, anti-ageing properties from Vitamin E and D-Panthenol for hydration.

The brush is a more traditional medium-sized bristle one that I quite like as I can get to most areas for an even application. The shade I had (as I have now used this up) was brown which gives a natural depth of colour so it's a good one for general day wear or fairer lashes.

As you can see the effect is quite natural, giving a little volume at the base of the lashes, some definition and a look with a little more length - more noticeable on the outer corner.

I find this a slightly underwhelming mascara, it naturally enhances the lashes but I would expect a bit more for the £25 price tag as I feel I can get this look with a drugstore mascara.

On the positive, the formula is a nice one as it doesn't flake/smudge/clump/irritate and is quite straightforward to remove with the standard oil/balm makeup removers I use.

Dark Taupe-Brown Eyeshadow Comparison

I have several eyeshadow shades that I know are very similar and it's only after I've bought them I've thought to myself 'I hope I haven't ended up with the same eyeshadow', so I've done a comparison to see.

These are all in the dark taupey brown category - my instant go-to for smoky eyes/outer corner and crease blends.

The Rouge Bunny Rouge and Burberry are the most pigmented shades and the ones that look very similar, but on closer inspection the Burberry Taupe Brown (07) is a touch warmer (maybe a tiny bit green) toned where as the Rouge Bunny Rouge Blackpepper Jay (045) looks a very tiny bit darker and more neutral than warm.

I adore the quality of both of these shades and the texture is equally as smooth and impressive in one swipe although the RBR is just that tiny bit smoother, although I don't think there is much in it. Blackpepper Jay I haven't had as long where as the Burberry is the first one I bought from the four shades so I have used this much more and it is one of my favourite eyeshadows.

The Une Sfumato S11 is one of Une's better pigmented shades although not quite as pigmented as RBR or Burberry. It looks to be a lighter and more warmer brown-toned version of Blackpepper Jay. Even though matte, it has a subtle sheen to it whereas RBR and Burberry are very much matte.

The Une I have had to make a few passes to get a bit more intensity but I think the sheerer texture works well for layering and when I don't want as strong a look.

I've already recently reviewed the Revlon CustomEyes palette here, but thought I'd see how the darkest shade looks in comparison. This is more pigmented than the Une and has a similar warm tone like the Burberry but with a subtle sheen that is visible when the light hits it.

I like all of these shades and even though some are more similar than others, they are not exact dupes so I don't feel too bad owning them all!

My Favourite Highlighting & Glowy Eyeshadows

I have quite a few eyeshadows that I like to reach for when highlighting and creating more glowy makeup looks so thought I'd share some of my favourites.

K by Beverley Knight Eyeshadow - 04

Unfortunately this range is no longer available (although I have spotted a few bits reduced online).

This is a lovely peach shade that has a very smooth and nicely pigmented texture (unfortunately my pic doesn't quite do it justice). It has a satiny/slight shimmer sheen to the finish. A versatile shade that definitely gives a glowy feel to the lids.

Barry M Dazzle Dust - 39 Tan

A beautiful warm tan shade full of shimmer. I am a fan of the Dazzle Dusts and even though many of them are quite full-on, as the texture/shimmer pigment is fine I can blend them out or use with other shades for more wearable looks. I like using Tan mostly on the inner corner to add a nice glowy highlight or a sheer wash all over the lid.

Barry M Dazzle Dust - 8 Silver Iridescent

A silvery white shimmer shade that initially I thought would look a bit disco ball but I only use a very small amount on the inner corner and it adds a very pretty hint of pale shimmer. As this is not too densely packed I can get away with a sheer wash of colour.

Illamasqua Pure Pigment - Furore

I think this is one of Illamasqua's must-have pigments. In real life it looks similar to Barry M Tan but this is lighter and has a bit of depth that gives it quite a rich feel. Texture is very fine and wonderfully pigmented. Again this one looks more amazing in real life then in my swatch pic.

MAC Eyeshadow - All That Glitters

One of my favourite shadows by MAC. It's a warm and frosty golden tan shade that has a good level of pigment.

MAC Shadestick - Butternutty

This was a limited edition shade but I think this is being repromoted in one of the upcoming collections. This is a pale golden shade that I like to use to line the waterline and also in the inner corner.

NARS Eyeshadow - Nepal

This was my first NARS eyeshadow and is my favourite of theirs. It is an unusual warm tan with a slight dusky pink tone. If I'm in a hurry and not sure what to use, this is one I can quickly use all over the lid and it just adds a soft, natural glow to the lid. On my NC40/42ish colouring, and as my lids are a little bit darker then my face, this works as a subtle highlight on the inner corner. 

NYX Eyeshadow - Champagne

When I want something a little more refined then All That Glitters, I like reaching for this as it has a decent level of pigment and still gives a nice golden sheen to the lids. 

Everyday Minerals Eyeshadow - On the Phone

An unusual pale, dusky, mauvey sort of colour that has very fine shimmer that looks quite subtle when applied. I like the shimmer in mineral eyeshadows as they have a wonderful depth that is not glittery.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Long Lasting Eyeshadow - Fire-tailed Sunbird

I have reviewed this shade before here. It is one of the slightly more unique shades as it has an interesting and very pretty mix of pink and peach. As with all RBR's eyeshadows, it's beautifully soft and well pigmented.

Urban Decay Virgin & Sin from the Naked Palette

Virgin is quite a pale, cool toned shade that has a very subtle iridescent sheen to it. This one I use slightly on the inner corner or layered on top of other shades as I think it is a bit pale on it's own for my colouring. Sin is a slightly frosty pale pinky toned champagne sort of shade that is richly pigmented and smooth.

NYX Eyeshadow - Sahara

Sahara is a warm, creamy shade that has a satin matte finish. This is one I like to as a inner corner highlight.

Bright Purple EOTD (well, yesterday:)

I fancied something brighter yesterday so my mind went straight to my Barry M Dazzle Dusts!
I have a matte purple shade (LED 2) that is one of my favourites as it is well pigmented and really livens up the eyes. Unfortunately, I think this was a limited edition colour and am not sure if you can still get it (sorry!)

The lighter purple has faded a bit on the centre of lid (this is at end of day)

 

I think that it does look a little brighter in real life but generally I do like the way the purple really stands out, using the Barry M pigment first then working the other colours on top intensifies this well.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Long-Lasting Eyeshadow Swatches

Along with the Gleaming Temptations lipglosses, the Rouge Bunny Rouge Long-Lasting Eyeshadows are also some of my favourite things from the range.

These are buttery soft, smooth, well pigmented and also have beautiful fine shimmer/sheen that isn't chunky and doesn't fall-out all over the place.

Here are the shades I have in my collection:

019 Mysterious Tinamou

Mysterious Tinamou is a deep blue with a hint of a slight green tone. When blended out you can make out slightly the very fine silver/pale blue shimmer.

012 Tantalizing Lovebird

Tantalizing Lovebird is a warm reddish pink rose shade. This one I like to use as an all over lid colour then having a little of the Fire-Tailed Sunbird in the inner corner as a highlight.

015 Abyssinian Catbird

I have posted about Abyssinian Catbird previously in one of my FOTD posts, this one is a stunning golden khaki/olive shade. Even though all the shades are well pigmented, for me this one is the richest in one swipe.

013 Fire-Tailed Sunbird

Fire-Tailed Sunbird is a lovely warm peach with a faint hint of pink to it. This for me makes a great highlight shade and is one I use a lot for the inner corner and also pair with many other warm shades.

027 Solstice Halcyon

Solstice Halcyon is a neutral taupe that has a more natural satin finish rather then shimmer. It is quite close to my natural lid colour (maybe a tiny bit paler and cooler) but as it has good pay-off I do notice the shade so it doesn't disappear completely into my natural colouring and not show up. It is more subtle but one I like for the inner half of my lid and also for blending ontop of other shades.

011 Veiled Lyrebird

Veiled Lyrebird looks to be similar to Tantalizing Lovebird but where as TL is more rose-toned, this is more copper toned but does have a faint hint of pink to it. This is one of my favourite go-to shades for a natural day look as I just use it all over the lid.

I have been meaning to do this post for absolutely ages and now that there is some lovely bright sunshine I have finally taken some pics I am happy with.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Gleaming Temptations lipglosses are amongst my favourites because they have hold on the lips but are non-sticky, and feel smooth and non-drying. What I love most about these is the beautiful crushed pearl shimmer - there is a depth and complexity to the tones that is very pretty and not glitzy in any way. They are a semi-sheer texture, some of the more bolder shades have more obvious colour, but as I often wear more neutral colours on the lips these suit my tastes well.

They are a 7ml size and cost £20, so they are at the pricey end of the scale but when I think of some of my other favourite lipglosses like Becca, Hourglass and YSL Golden Gloss, they are similarily priced and these for me are worth it because of the quality.

Counting Wishes

Counting Wishes (036) is the brightest of the shades I have and is a beautiful semi-sheer cherry-red with fine red/golden shimmer.

Blameless

Blameless (031) is a 'my lips but better shade', it's a sort of warm, rose/brown which at first looks like it has no shimmer but actually it's so fine that it's only when I look closely that I notice it. This one is the most natural looking all of the 5 shades I have.

Sin Tiptoe In

Sin Tiptoe In (051) is my joint favourite with No Strings Attached, it is a gorgeous warm copper shade with a faint rosy tone and subtle pink/copper shimmer.

No Strings Attached

No Strings Attached (042) is a light peachy/pinky shade with delicate glow-giving shimmer. This shade is the one I reach for the most out of my RBR glosses as I just love the pretty tones in this.

One Long Sip

One Long Sip (033) looks similar to Sin TipToe In, but this one leans more golden in tone and has more noticeable golden sparkle.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Silk Aether Cream Eyeshadow Batiste Grayling

I had been meaning to do this post sooner as I purchased this quite recently from Zuneta, but I have been away a few days (and been internet free and rather oblivious to any online happenings) and have left a lot till I got back. Anyway, back to beauty and the new Rouge Bunny Rouge Silk Aether Long-Lasting Cream Eyeshadow in Batiste Grayling.

When I first heard that RBR were releasing a cream shadow, I had envisioned a pot formed shadow maybe a bit like Benefit's creaseless cream shadows with their beautiful illustrations on the lid. In reality the packaging is just as beautiful as the rest of RBR's range as it comes in a compact tube form with a sponge tip applicator. Although I think if I were to have a few of these it would be tricky to tell the colours apart quickly as the tube is not see-through and the label at the bottom is small.

When I read the descriptions of the shades, Batiste Grayling was the one I was drawn to as I really like grey eyeshadows, I think they are very flattering to brown eyes and I quite like the contrast between a cool toned colour and my skintone.

Batiste Grayling is a mid-grey shade with no noticeable shimmer, more of a silky natural matt finish. It is a light cream texture that gives enough time to blend but it does dry in place without actually feeling drying on the skin.  It works well both in lighter and heavier applications - if I use it lightly the colour blends quite naturally into my darker lids so I get a more subtle grey shade but used more intensely the colour does go quite opaque. The staying power of this is good - on my very oily lids it lasted fairly well, a little creasing towards late afternoon, but no greasiness. I have also tried this as a base and it does make eyeshadows last a little longer, but I think I still prefer my anti-crease combo (ELF Mineral Eyeshadow Primer and Bloom Eye Paint) as a base.

Overall I am really happy with this, as it is versatile and comfortable to wear - which is something I appreciate with many of Rouge Bunny Rouge's products.

This week I have been playing up the eyes more as sometimes when getting ready for work I instinctively grab my favourite brown/neutral shades. This was yesterday's face where I have used the gorgeous warm tones from Rouge Bunny Rouge eyeshadows as the key element.

2010 Makeup Favourites

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a lovely holiday.


It's been a great year for beauty (when is it not?) and I am excited for 2011. Yet another favourites post, but it's good to acknowledge the products that have served me well the past year. It was kind of hard to not list a quazillion products but here is a selection of the items I found myself loving over 2010 (I am sure that I will have missed some out):

Urban Decay Naked Palette

One of the best things Urban Decay has ever made. Enough said.

2010 was the year I put MAC on the backseat a bit and got much more into NARS. The Sheer Glow Foundation is great when I don't want to faff about too much as it gives good coverage, feels light and natural like I am almost not wearing foundation. I use the shade Barcelona and think it's pretty spot-on in colour. There have been some really good drugstore foundations (Revlon Photoready, Maxfactor Second Skin & Bourjois Healthy Mix deserve a mention), but the colour matching in NARS pips it for me.

NARS Douceur Blush - great go-to natural shade that adds a hint of colour that suits lots of looks.
NARS Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara - this is bordering on HG territory as it gives me lovely separated and defined lashes to help achieve an even 'fanned' look. Adds some volume too.

MUFE HD Powder

This really softens the look of pores which is something many primers fail to do while looking invisible on the skin. I really wish MUFE ups the availability of their products this year as I would love to check out more of the line.

2010 reignited my love of lipgloss and think I ended up adding a few more glosses rather then lipsticks to my collection. Rouge Bunny Rouge Gleaming Temptations Lipglosses, Hourglass Extreme Sheen Lipgloss in Ignite, and Becca Glossy Lip Tint in Amaretto were regular non-sticky favourites.

My love of MAC continues, but last year I was not tempted as much by new collections, however the Ripe Peach Blush, Accentuate/Sculpt Highlight/Contour Powder and the Penultimate liner were things I reached for often.

Korres Eyebrow Pencil

I need to look at Korres more as they have some absolute gems with this pencil being a staple product as it's a dark, ashy brown that blends well with my natural brows.

The ELF Mineral Eyeshadow Primer along with Bloom Eye Paint in Chocolate has been helping to keep my eyeshadows crease free and the Rouge Bunny Rouge Quartz Eyeliner in Anthracite Essence has helped me get perfectly lined eyes.

17 are rivalling some of the high-end mascaras with some excellent offerings. The Va Va Voom Volume (not pictured) is a better dupe of Diorshow and the Wild Curls Mascara is great for getting lift and definition. I don't need to curl my lashes with this and I can emphasise my outer lashes well to get a more elongated look.


There were a lot more exciting offerings from the drugstore and the Accessorize Illusion Eyeshadows and myface Blingtones were some of the standouts for me.

I cannot believe I didn't make my first Rouge Bunny Rouge eyeshadow Abyssinian Catbird, as the shade is so beautiful, definitely a must have shade from them.

Reaching for... Rouge Bunny Rouge Devotion Ink Quartz Eyeliner in Anthracite Essence

I don't usually go for liquid liner, much preferring gel liners as they are quite easy to use and last the whole day. Lately I have been reaching for Rouge Bunny Rouge Devotion Ink Quartz Eyeliner in Anthracite Essence (and breathe) and I thought I'd give it a mention.

This is standard looking dip eyeliner, and if you shake it you can hear that there are little balls in the well. This is a deep black with fine quartz particles that give it a pretty shimmering effect but in a subtle and less chunky glitzy way.

What I really like is the brush - it's thin and flexible and allows me to glide the liner on with ease and get a good thin line as well as a thicker line. As this flows nicely it makes it easier when trying to get a winged look on the outer corner. Also it's not scratchy which is something I find with other brushes when lining near the inner corner.

It has the long-wearing qualities of a gel liner but feels much more light and gentle on the eyes.
At £27 it's expensive, but after having used it and seeing the difference in quality I would definitely repurchase this.

NARS Downtown Lipgloss Look

I am slowly getting more and more into NARS, and with their new collection I bought my first lipgloss from them In Downtown.
I was immediately drawn to this when I tested in out on counter - it's quite an unusual soft purple shade with lilacy pink fine shimmer, unlike anything I have at present.

This lipgloss is slightly sticky which I don't mind so much (I just slap on some Lanolips 101 underneath - love:) but it does hold well on lips and lasts quite well.

For me this shade sits well in my 'comfort zone' as it's not so bright and only a little bolder then my natural lip colour.

I've done a look which uses the lilac tones as inspiration for the eyes:

MAC Studio Sculpt concealer NW35 slightly as base and a little under eyes
NARS Nepal eyeshadow all over lid
NARS Mekong eyeshadow as the thicker line along lid
NARS Pearl Beach cream eyeshadow pressed ontop of the Mekong and Nepal to give a lilac tone to the eye
Rouge Bunny Rouge Devotion Ink Quartz Eyeliner in Anthracite Essence to finely line lash line
No7 Exceptional Definition Mascara (used more on outer corner to give a more winged look) and only on upper lashes.

Overall I am pleased with this purchase as it is a shade I would wear day-to-day as well as with more dramatic looks. It sort of reminds a little of a MAC 3D Glass I once had called Algorithm (although I think that was sheerer and didn't have shimmer).
